Shop Foreman
Jamaica Cottage Shop has been a premier builder of fine garden buildings since 1995 and is still run by its founder. We build both fully assembled models that we ship with our own trucks to clients in the northeast and pre-cut kits that ship nationwide and internationally.
Job Purpose: The shop foreman oversees operations on the floor and reports to the production
manager.
Duties:
Ensure that the shop environment and personnel are in compliance with OSHA/VOSHA guidelines at all times.
Keep floor operations moving smoothly and efficiently.
Train new cut room staff and answer questions as they arise.
Inspect the product and monitor the quality of workmanship.
Work with dispatch to ensure that deadlines are met.
Maintain equipment and report equipment needs to the production manager.
Keep track of inventory and work with the production manager to limit over and under supply of materials.
Fill in when demand requires an extra hand to produce, package, or deliver buildings.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED
Valid driver’s license
Knowledge of OSHA regulations
Ability to lift up to 70 lbs
Basic math skills
Ability to read and understand plans and schematics
Experience in a manufacturing environment
Production Staff
Production manufacturing floor organizer with fork lift certification wanted. Candidate will be familiar with OSHA guidelines and safety/risk management. Responsibilities include shipping/receiving, inventory management, maintenance, repair of equipment, rolling stock, and shop tools and machinery. Construction, warehousing, or manufacturing background preferred. Computer experience and or Class A CDL is helpful. Women and minorities encouraged to apply. Email resume or apply in person. Framing Carpenter
Framing contractors are responsible for production of cottages from start to finish. Each carpenter is given a set of plans for a project. A set of rafter patterns are supplied. Carpenters are responsible for establishing a work space, beginning the project, taking the cottage from start to finish with out help from others. Projects are expected to be completed within a standard time frame. Compensation is on a per piece wage. Each set of plans are handed out with a set number of hours. Pay is based on $30/hour. Pay is directly related to the length of time a project will take for an individual to complete. Carpenters supply own tools, a skill saw, a 100‘ electrical cord, a four foot level and a cordless screw gun. Carpenters also participate in deliveries when extra hands are needed. Some traveling is required for on site construction. Compensation is given for traveling.
